Once, in the desert country of Miraji, there was a Sultan without an heir.

The heir had been killed by his own brother, the treacherous Rebel Prince, who was consumed by jealousy and sought the throne for himself.

Or so it was said by some. There were others who said that the Rebel Prince was not a traitor but a hero...

In the final battle for the throne, Amani must fight for everything she believes in, but with the rebellion in pieces, and the Sultan's armies advancing across the desert plains, who will lead, who will triumph, who will live and who will die?

My lord, what a satisfying conclusion to a magnificent series.

It's been a while since I've read such a tight and consistently well written trilogy. I mean, it's honestly difficult to think of any big flaws to this series, from the plot to the writing to the world building to the characters. It all just comes together nicely, leaving you quite content.

First thing is, the characters are excellent. I especially love the romance and how it is developed throughout the series- it's so believable. In fact, pretty much every character's character arcs are so well planned and executed, which means that overall the plot itself is incredibly well put together. There's pretty much no point in the book where you feel bored, with the book very difficult to put down due to the excellent pacing.

The world building is so good, especially the legends/folk tales which are told throughout the series. I feel like Hamilton has put so much effort into building this excellent world that I would not mind if she wrote some companion series. There's just so much more that could be explored!

Overall, I would recommend this series to everyone. It's rare to find such a beautifully written fantasy series where each subsequent book is just as good as the last.
